Children's Story books launched

The Secretary of Ministry of Education Dasho Karma Yeshey, the Secretary of GNHC Dasho Thinley Namgyel, and Country Director – Nepal/Bhutan Country Office formally launched the 30 children’s storybooks written and illustrated by school children of Zhemgang district produced through ‘Children Writing for Children’ project on 7 November 2017 in Thimphu.

The children’s storybooks were launched in a function attended by local authors, education officials, officials from READ Bhutan, and other stakeholders.

Save the Children – Bhutan Country Office in collaboration with the District Education Office, Zhemgang, has piloted the project to

i.                     Support children’s literacy acquisition by encouraging them to write

ii.                   Increase children’s access to reading materials

iii.                  Provide opportunity to narrate about their society, community, customs and traditions, joy and happiness, and concerns in their own words and pictures

iv.                 Inculcate the habit of reading and writing at a young age

The storybooks will be provided to the children in Zhemgang and Thimphu. The project will be continued to benefit children in other districts of the country.
