Save the Children wins Inter-agency Basketball Tournament 2016

Save the Children – Bhutan Country Office, once again, emerged victorious, winning the Inter-agency Basketball Tournament 2016 defeating WHO in the finals on 9 July 2016. Save the Children won the tournament in 2014, the opening year of the one-day tournament.

Rehabilitation facility for Girl’s at Youth Development and Rehabilitation Centre (YDRC) opened

Addressing the lack of reformative and rehabilitative facility for girls who come in contact with the law, a girl’s dormitory was inaugurated at the Youth Development and Rehabilitation Centre (YDRC), Chukha, for girl-residents while under detention. Constructed with funding support from Save the Children, Italy, the facility will impart vocational trainings and skills development, while the girls can also pursue regular education while being at the centre.

Simulation Exercise for the Education Sector Disaster Management and Contingency Plan

As per the MoU signed between Ministry of Education, Gross National Commission and Save the Children Bhutan Country Office under the ‘Comprehensive Disaster Management Project for the Education Sector’ funded by DiPECHO and SC Norway, Department of School Education in collaboration with Department of Disaster Management, Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs (MoHCA) and Save the Children Bhutan Country Office presented the final draft Disaster Management & Contingency Plan of Ministry of Education and conducted Simulation Exercise for the national level decision makers

Disability Inclusive DRR training

A one day training on Disability Inclusive DRR was held in Save the Children Bhutan Country Office on 27th May, 2016. There were more than 15 participants from SEN Schools, DPOs, Special Education and ECCD Division of MoE and Save the Children staff. Facilitated by Ms. Saeko Kani, DRR Consultant, the training covered the definition of Disability, Inclusion and Inclusive DRR, the history and shift of concept of Disability and international and regional agreements on DRR and Disability, inclusive program design and the Twin-Track Approach.

Children’s Book Forum

Representatives from a diverse group but with a common objective of promoting ‘reading’ among Bhutanese children, including some children, attended a Children’s Book Forum organized by Save the Children in collaboration with Royal Education Council under Bhutan Children’s Book Initiative (BCBI) on 1st June,2016 at Ariya Hotel in Thimphu.
