As per the MoU signed between Ministry of Education, Gross National Commission and Save the Children Bhutan Country Office under the ‘Comprehensive Disaster Management Project for the Education Sector’ funded by DiPECHO and SC Norway, Department of School Education in collaboration with Department of Disaster Management, Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs (MoHCA) and Save the Children Bhutan Country Office presented the final draft Disaster Management & Contingency Plan of Ministry of Education and conducted Simulation Exercise for the national level decision makers and relevant stakeholders of Education sector on 28th June 2016 at the Namgay Heritage Hotel.
The event was graced by His Excellency the Education Minister and Offtg. Secretary of Education along with other important stakeholders such as the Director and other officers from the Department of Disaster Management, the Thimphu Thrompon, the Superintendent and OC of the Fire Services Division of the Royal Bhutan Police, the National Director of Save the Children, representatives from the Royal Education Council, the BCSEA, Thimphu DEO and TEO, the members of the Gross National Happiness committee(GNHc), members of the Core Task Group (CTG) and the Disaster Management Plan (DMP) working group members.
The Disaster Focal Officer of Disaster Management Unit, DSE, presented the Education Sector Disaster Management & Contingency Plan, on behalf of DM Working Group Members, to the participants.
The presentation highlighted the background and overview of Disaster Management & Contingency Plan followed by Education sector DM and Contingency Plan development process and working group members and covered on the 7 sections in the plan.
At the end of the presentation of the plan, His Excellency Sherig Lyonpo endorsed the plan.
