The Program Manager of Save the Children Hong Kong, officials from the Hong Kong Committee on Children's Rights Child and Child Councilors of Kids' Dream visited Save the Children Bhutan from December 26th to January 3rd, 2017 on a learning visit. While in Bhutan, the delegation from Save the Children Hong Kong and Kids’ Dream attended the Annual session of the Bhutan Children’s Parliament in Thimphu.
A tangible achievement of strengthening ‘child justice system’ in Bhutan has been the establishment and opening of a child-friendly pretrial centre and a protected interview room at the Women and Child Protection Unit of Royal Bhutan Police in Phuentsholing. The centre was inaugurated on 13th July, 2016 by the additional Chief of Police, Colonel Chimi Dorji.
Addressing the lack of reformative and rehabilitative facility for girls who come in contact with the law, a girl’s dormitory was inaugurated at the Youth Development and Rehabilitation Centre (YDRC), Chukha, for girl-residents while under detention. Constructed with funding support from Save the Children, Italy, the facility will impart vocational trainings and skills development, while the girls can also pursue regular education while being at the centre.
