Orientation of Child Safeguarding and Protection Policy

The National Commission for Women and Children in collaboration and support from Save the Children developed a Child Safeguarding and Protection Policy for NGO and Government partners working for children. The Policy aims to provide directives and guidance to the organization to work with the children and youth sensitively and ensure that their best interests are always taken into consideration, promote and protect the rights of our children from abuse and exploitation during their engagement with the organizations/agencies.

Bhutan launches an inclusive National Education Assessment Framework

The GPE grant to Bhutan is supporting the development of the country’s first National Education Assessment Framework.

Despite Bhutan successfully expanding access to education (the out-of-school rate decreased from 12.5% in 2010 to 8% in 2018) and the Net Enrolment Rate at primary level increased from 92.9% in 2018 to 96.5% in 2019, concerns about the quality of education remain.

HEART (Healing & Education Through Art) and Child Safeguarding CAMP

A total of 61 children of grades PP to VIII, from the communities of Tshanglajong, Zurphey, and Goling, including the two Lifeline Child Representatives – participated in a weeklong camp on Art & Child Safeguarding organized by Save the Children – Bhutan Country Office in collaboration with District Education Office, and Tshanglajong Primary School, Zhemgang. The activity was funded through Sponsorship Fund.

ASSESSING LEARNING OUTCOMES

In 2019 through Global Partnership for Education (GPE) support, Save the Children in partnership with the Ministry of Education (MoE) and Bhutan Council for School Examination and Assessments (BCSEA) supported the development, finalization and endorsement of the National Education Assessment Framework in Bhutan. The project will support in enhancing the national assessment system to improve learning outcomes and the BCSEA will be conducting the first ever National Education Assessment for Grade 3 by the end of 2021.
