78.2 percent of 3-5 year old children in Bhutan have no access to ECCD programs. To address this gap “Global Partnership for Education-Education Sector Program Implementation Grant” (GPE-ESPIG), under the activity - Improve access to and quality of ECCD for 3-5-year-old children supported the establishment of 34 ECCD centres in partnership with the ECCD & SEN Division of Ministry of Education. The project expects to increase the children having access to ECCD programs to 38 percent by constructing 150 centres by 2022. A total of 40 District Education Officers (DEOs), Thromde Education Officers (TEOs) and Education Monitoring Officers were trained on quality assessment for ECCD programming.

In support of the quality of the programs provided in the ECCD centres, Save the Children supported the diploma training of 90 ECCD facilitators at the Paro College of Education. The facilitators will be benefiting 2236 children once back at their ECCD centres.
