62 school children from grades VI-X, representing 20 schools in Zhemgang, participated in the five day “Children Writing for Children” program organized by Save the Children in collaboration with District Education office, Zhemgang. The program was held from 3– 8 July, 2017 at Zhemgang Central School.

Children wrote and illustrated children’s story books, compiling a total of 30 stories in all. The program was initiated to encourage children to read from an early age by supporting their writing, increase children’s access to story books, and provide an opportunity for children to tell their stories in their own words, of their perceptions of their own surroundings.

The program was facilitated by Mr. Amber Rai, Curriculum Developer of Royal Education Council, Mr. Mayiesh Kumar Tamang of VAST Bhutan and Ms. Chador Wangmo, local Bhutanese Author. Save the Children will publish and provide the books to all schools in Zhemgang and Thimphu.
