Save the Children – Bhutan Country Office, once again, emerged victorious, winning the Inter-agency Basketball Tournament 2016 defeating WHO in the finals on 9 July 2016. Save the Children won the tournament in 2014, the opening year of the one-day tournament.

Led by Garab D Namgyal, the DRR Program Officer, Save the Children team displayed a ‘team-oriented game’ playing grit and grind, particularly in the final game. Among others, Sonam Tshewang and Jangchhu provided devastating interior offense combined with airtight defense. While Pema Namgyel’s game winning shot with 25 seconds left in the final game went down as the highlight of the tournament.

The one day knock-out tournament had a total of eight international organizations in the country (WHO, UNDP, JICA, Save the Children, UN, SNV, WWF, SDF and SDC) participating. Save the Children defeated UN team 2 in the first match and played against JICA in the semi-final. The finals were very closely contested.
