A three-day Publisher’s Training began in Thimphu on June 16 as a part of Bhutan Children’s Book Initiative, a collaborative project between save the Children – Bhutan Country Program and Ministry of Education.

The Publisher’s Training will develop the capacity of local publishers, authors, writers and illustrators to produce high quality age and context appropriate books for Bhutanese children.

About 20 local publishers, authors and illustrators are attending the training conducted by Senior Education Advisor, Joseph Nhan-O'Reilly, the SCUK TA for BCBI project and assisted by Bhutan Program staff.

The training workshop began with an introduction to the vision of BCBI, the stages of children development as it applied to reading and language skills, the idea of emergent literacy and books for very young children.

The major part of the workshop will be focused on hands-on training of developing at least one title for children aged 3-7 years old as part of the high quality age and context appropriate books for children in Bhutan.
