Fredric Roberts Photography Workshop 2014

Save the Children Bhutan Country Office in collaboration with renowned photographer, Mr. Fredric Roberts and team, conducted a children’s photography workshop in Paro from 12^th- 18^th January 2014.

21 students, a mix of rural and urban kids from various parts of the country participated in this photography-training. It is the first of its kind to be held in Bhutan and was well received by the Education Ministry and the general public. The photography workshop was organized mainly to train children in photography skills and also as a means for children’s voices to be heard by story-telling through the medium of photography. We also used this opportunity to have the participants cover SC projects in Bhutan through their photographs.

The photography workshop covered the following themes:

1. Children with disabilities
2. Benefits of Early Childhood care and Development (ECCD) programs
3. Children benefitting from the youth centre program of Save the Children
4. Shattering the myth of Youth unemployment by showcasing innovative careers taken up by young people in Bhutan
5. Save the Children’s Mobile Library Bus Service program

The closing ceremony was held on 18^th January 2014 in Thimphu whereby the best of the participants’ photographs were presented at a final exhibition. Honourable Education Secretary, Royal Government of Bhutan graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Also present were local dignitaries, participants, their parents, beneficiaries of SC programs, and subjects of the photographs.
