Regional Behavioral Science Specialist, Asia

The Opportunity

The Center for Utilizing Behavioural Insights for Children (CUBIC) is a Save the Children initiative guiding Save the Children country offices and Members in learning and applying a new approach, namely Behavioural Insights (BI), to increase the effectiveness of our programs and enhance impact for children. CUBIC’s Behavioural Science Specialist will co-lead behavioural insights-focused projects with Country Office staff. Tasks include: carrying out formative behavioural research, designing, implementing and evaluating behaviourally informed interventions, conducting behavioural science workshops, and writing results for both technical and non-technical audiences, among others.

Key Responsibilities

The Behavioural Science Specialist will:

  • Carry out responsibilities for leading projects, in collaboration with country office staff such as behavioural diagnosis, and the design, implementation and evaluation of behaviourally informed interventions. He/she will coordinate regularly with country office staff to trouble shoot and make sure projects/trials are on track from beginning to end. He/she will develop the Detailed Implementation Plan (DIP) for each project.
    1. Behavioural diagnosis to better understand and diagnose behavioural issues and barriers. This includes leading primary and secondary “on the ground” formative research (where travel is permitted and appropriate as per pandemic developments) and the analysis of large datasets to derive learnings and guide project/trial design.
    2. Design, implement and evaluate behaviourally informed interventions. This will involve supporting the development of trial protocols, and working with country office staff to design and implement experiments that balance rigor with practical considerations. He/she will determine which evaluation method is most appropriate (e.g. RCT, matched controlled trial, A/B test), conduct power analyses and randomization, and determine outcome measures and how data will be collected.
  • Other tasks include:
    1. Support country office trainings, particularly sessions focused on formative research, experiments and trials. These workshops involve both an introduction to behavioural insights and behavioural science, as well as hands-on design sessions to develop the prioritized approaches for testing.
    2. Draft reports, case studies and academic papers to promote results of trials and advise on potential scale up.
    3. Contribute to organizational growth by supporting the development of proposals and concept notes.
